Carbon Recreation is a well-known and well-loved department in the county. The recreation employees play a huge roll in providing much of the enjoyment and events in the area such as sports, the annual county fair, outdoor recreation and more.
During the Carbon County Commission meeting that took place at its regularly scheduled time on Wednesday evening, Carbon Rec employee Cory Jensen was awarded as the employee of the month by Rose Barnes and Frank Ori.
Ori, Carbon County Director of Recreation, told a short story on why he believed that Jensen was so deserving of the title. On Mother’s Day weekend, there was a group of kayakers that found themselves in trouble due to nature and limit on experience. The canoes had cap-sized and search and rescue had to be called in.
Jensen, with the help of Emery County Search and Rescue, were able to save the participants and most of their belongings without incident. An employee accompanied Jensen the following day to the site, where they recovered everything but a paddle and life jacket.
“It was above and beyond the call of duty and he was able to save us a whole heartache,” Ori stated.
