Recent rainfall has caused Huntington City Council to look at the drainage problems in the city once again.
Councilman Mark Justice had toured the city during a storm and recorded with pictures some of the issues the city must address. One of the problems seemed to be that many of the drain boxes are higher than the curbs that had been installed previously. Probably the biggest problem is that the drainage goes from west to east and most of the pipes in the east part of town are much smaller than pipes in the west part of town.
The council decided to request that the Special Service District make this a priority for next year. Citizen Boyd Wilson requested an immediate remedy for his drainage problem before winter. The ice builds at his corner because there is no drain box. He felt that this could easily be remedied. Mayor Hilary Gordon said she would speak with the SSD at their next meeting.
The decision was also made to request funds from a CIB grant to finish the fence at the cemetery. Perpetual care funds have been used previously, but a motion was made to proceed with an application to the CIB.
A $150 donation was approved for the Daughters of Utah Pioneers.
The mayor and council members reported the sidewalks and paths at the north and east parts of town are nearing completion. The sidewalks at the east side of Huntington Elementary have been re-done for safety reasons and will be ready for the start of school.
Caution was given to watch for safety concerns at the school intersection of Main Street. Striping has also been completed.
Councilman Justice also complimented city maintenance workers Mike and Robert for their help with city projects.
