The basement of the Greek Orthodox church played host to a special event on Saturday afternoon. This event was a fundraiser geared toward putting a stop to domestic violence and sex trafficking.

Beginning at 11:30 a.m. and ending at 1:30 p.m., this event was only $12 a person, which included a tasty Greek-themed meal made right in the kitchen at the church. There was also a bake sale and a silent auction with plenty for those in attendance to bid on or purchase.

Stephanie Cha, event organizer, stated that she would like to thank the entire Carbon County Community.

“Without our local radio stations, newspapers, businesses and government, this event would not have been as successful,” Cha said. “I also want to give a huge thank you to Price Philoptochos Society. The word ‘Philoptochos’ means friend of the poor. I believe that through this event we truly demonstrated the spirit of helping those in need.”

Cha went on to state that the great Mahatma Ghandi once said, “Be the change you wish to see in the world.” If there is something you see that needs a positive change, don’t be afraid to change it,” she shared.

While the funds raised at the event have not yet been tallied, the organizers know that it was successful. The proceeds go directly to the Carbon County Women’s Shelter and Street’s Hope. Both facilities provide food, shelter, clothes and, more than that, a second chance at life.

“Ultimately, I know both will use the funds in the best possible way,” Cha said.
