Despite losing region to the Richfield Wildcats, the Emery boys’ cross country team responded in a big way at the 2017 Utah UHSAA State Cross Country Championships; it won the state title.
Both Richfield and Emery tied atop the leaderboard with 70 points, but Emery’s sixth runner, Chase Christiansen, came in a spot ahead of Richfield’s Treyson Hansen (32nd and 33rd positions, respectively), just six seconds apart.
Tanyon Allred finished first for Emery, coming in with a time of 16:40.2. Freshman Bryar Meccariello was just six seconds behing Allred, and brother McKay Meccariello was just 14 seconds behind in 14th place. Griffin Livingston came in 18th and Ty Funk was 21st.
Mason Faimalo was the final finisher for the Spartans, finishing 76th. The race took place at Sugar House Park in Salt Lake City.
