It’s one thing to excel on the playing field. It’s another to do it and the same in the classroom. Nineteen local athletes were honored recently with academic all-state honors, as awarded by the Utah High School Activities Association.
To break down the numbers, Carbon had the most honorees with 10. Pinnacle was next with five, Emery three and Green River had one on the respective teams.
For the Dinos, Zade Carrillo, Ryan Gagon and Ryker Smith took home honors on the 3A golf team. Shannon Baker and Makara Morgan were on the girls’ cross-country team. Morgan was also named to the girls’ soccer team as well, a rare feat being named to two different academic all-state teams in the same season. Rachel Walton was also on the 3A soccer team. Delaney Cisneros and McKenzie Griffeth made the volleyball team as well. The lone football honoree was Nathan Olson.
The Pinnacle Panthers saw Hannah Stock, Nikki Borba and Kaeley Taylor make the girls’ cross-country team. Remington Motte landed on the baseball team and Abigael Acosta was found on the cross-country team.
Emery’s Abbie Huntington, volleyball, Landon Fairbanks, football, and Carlie Robinson, soccer, earned their way to their respective spots on all-state teams.
The Pirates had one lone honoree in Lindsey McFarlane, who was named to the 1A volleyball team.
