Cade Brazier nailed seven three pointers to lead the Emery Spartans over 5A Maple Mountain Tuesday evening, 72-69.
Maple Mountain mounted a comeback in the fourth quarter, but the Spartans were able to hang on for the win, their second straight to begin the season.
Brazier went 7-14 from the field, including 7-12 from behind the the three point line, finishing with a team high 25 points. Tyler Butler was right behind with 20 points, adding four more threes en route to 8-16 from the field. He also added 11 rebounds for the double double.
Behind Brazier and Butler, sophomore Brax Jensen tallied 12 points, finishing 7-10 from the free throw line. He also had five assists. Kyson Stilson and Brodie Tuttle each finished with five points on the night. Stilson added seven rebounds and a team high six assists.
As a team, Emery made 15 three pointers, tying them with four other teams for sixth place in the state record book for most threes made in a game. The state record is 20, set last year by two teams.
Down 22-16 after one quarter of play, Emery outscored Maple Mountain 36-22 over the next two periods to take the 52-44 lead entering the fourth and final period.
Emery (2-0, 0-0 Region 15) will travel to Richfield this weekend to take part in the Central Utah Basketball Preview. The Spartans will take on Morgan at 1 p.m. Friday and 4A Dixie on Saturday at noon.
