The Carbon swim team traveled to Mount Pleasant on Friday to take on North Sanpete, Gunnison Valley and Wasatch Academy. Both boys and girls placed first to bring home some big wins for the team.
There were 28 recorded best times from the meet on Friday. Tyson Swasey came in second in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:10.25. Swasey is only .6 of a second away from breaking the school record for the event and aims to do so this season.
Two relay teams from Carbon placed in the top two in the 200 medley relay. In first place with a time of 2:12.85 was Megan Swasey, Nicole Swasey, Sofia Crompton and Shannon Baker. The time the girls’ relay team received from this meet moved them into the number 2 ranking for 3A state overall. Taycie Davis, Jacee Richards, Emily Jespersen and Ashlin Baker also teamed up to swim a 2:35.52.
There were significant gains the the boys’ and girls’ 50 yard freestyle with nine swimmers from Carbon swimming their best times. Ashlin Baker, Taycie Davis, Jadelyn Flores, Kelsey Manuel, Jerron Stead, Matthew Torres, Brock Morris, Hunter Heath and Jacob Torres all shaved off time from previous swims.
Jespersen and Hunter Heath placed in the top two in the boys’ and girls’ 100 yard backstroke, also swimming their best times in the event. Heath was first in the boys with a time of 1:22.63 while Jespersen came in second with a time of 1:19.40.
Both teams brought home first place finishes from the meet with a combined total of 407 points. Carbon will again swim at home on Jan. 5, taking on Gunnison Valley and Richfield. The meet is slated for 3:30 p.m.
