The Pinnacle Lady Panthers’ region struggles continued as Monticello handed the team its ninth straight loss in Region 19 play.
Shooting woes started early for Pinnacle as the team went scoreless in the first quarter while Monticello put up 12 early. A lone point in the second quarter for the Panthers did not help as the hosting Buckaroos sailed by with 20, taking a 32-1 lead into the break.
Pinnacle outscored Monticello for the only time in the third, 7-6, leaving the team with a hope for a large comeback in the fourth. The Buckaroos dug in during the fourth, scoring 16 points and holding the Panthers to two to take the win, 54-10.
Alexus Salazar put up five points for the Panthers in the losing effort while Stephanie Sasser added four. Nikki Borba rounded out the scoring with a lone point.
Pinnacle (7-16, 0-9 Region 19) will face Whitehorse (4-9, 2-6 Region 19) at home on Friday for a 7 p.m. tip. Whitehorse outpaced the Panthers back on Jan. 12, taking the 54-38 region win.
The Panthers host Monticello next week for their final game in region play.
