Needing a win at American Leadership Academy Thursday night to keep pace with Juab and Union atop the Region 14 standings, the Carbon Lady Dinos sailed right past the Eagles, 73-16.
With the win, and a win by Juab at Delta, a three-way tie ensued in Region 14. Union completed their region schedule on Tuesday at Carbon. A coin toss took place Friday morning, with Juab winning the flip. Carbon and Union then snagged the second and third seeds in the upcoming 3A tournament, respectively.
Kelsey Sorenson saved the best game of her career, so far, for Thursday night at ALA, pouring in 24 points on 7-14 from the floor and connecting on 9-13 free throws. She did so in only 19 minutes of action. Sorenson also grabbed eight rebounds, dished out three assists and had five steals.
Jodi Noyes added 15 points and seven rebounds. Next up was Jordan Bianco, who nailed three threes en route to 13 points.
The game was never in doubt, as Carbon held ALA to three points or less in three different quarters.
With the win and ensuing coin flip, Carbon will now take on Region 13’s #4 seed, the Summit Academy Bears, in the first round of the 3A Playoffs on Friday at Wasatch High School. Should the Lady Dinos win, they would take on the winner of Emery/ALA on Feb. 22 at Dixie State University.
Carbon finished the regular season with an overall record of 16-5, including a 10-2 mark in Region 14 play.
