Community Kicks Ash Again at Annual 5K

Castle Country residents are no strangers to 5K events, especially ones that are aimed toward benefiting great causes and raising awareness. This fact was once again demonstrated on Saturday morning as a large crowd gathered at the Price River Trail, beginning behind JB’s, to participate in the Don’t Be a Butthead 5K presented by the Southeast Utah Health Department.

Health Department Program Director and Health Educator Debbie Marvidikis started the event off by thanking all that attended and giving some sobering statistics on tobacco use. Then, per tradition, Jerri Timothy of Fitness World warmed the attendees up with a short stretching exercise.

Over 245 community members participated in the 5K. However, due to many of the participants donning their coats over their numbers, only 171 runners were clocked. After the event, the runners and family were treated to Powerade, water and sub sandwiches. The local health department would like to thank Price City Police and the Carbon County Sheriff’s Office for assisting with traffic control for the safety of the participants.
