USU Eastern Press Release
Softball swept the College of Southern Nevada Coyotes in a four-game series on Friday and Saturday at home. On Friday, the Eagles won games one and two by a score of 15-7 and 9-8 while winning Saturday’s games by a score of 15-3 and 14-13. It was the first time since the program returned to USU Eastern last year that they swept the Coyotes.
USU Eastern head coach Brittani Richins couldn’t be prouder of the way her team has been playing especially winning 10 of their last 12 games.
“I am super proud of the girls and very excited for their future in the rest of conference and in the region tournament. There was a lot of close calls and the girls gave me a heart attack with keeping the score so close in the seventh inning of two of the games, but as a coaching staff we just had to believe that they had the confidence,” said Richins.
At the plate, the Eagles had no problem sending balls over the fence, hitting 12 home runs as a team. Freshman Ashley Sweat and Taylor Passarella each had three home runs and 10 RBIs during the series against CSN.
“Ashley and Taylor are dominating at the plate when they have their confidence on their side. I have known all along that they would be a critical part to our team’s success,” said Richins.
Shaylea Bunn and Cassidy Howe each had two home run in the series as well. Howe had a team high 11 hits and six doubles.
Leading the Eagles in the circle was pitcher Carlye Levy, who picked up three wins and had a 3.23 ERA in 13 innings of work. Levy also had four hits and a home run batting for USU Eastern as well.
Bunn also picked up a win for USU Eastern after coming into relief of starting pitcher Angelique Lokeni during game two.
The weekend sweep extends the Eagles’ winning streak to six games. They have won 10 out of their last 12 games in conference play and currently sit in third place in the Scenic West Athletic Conference standings.
The Eagles will host first-place College of Southern Idaho this upcoming weekend in a four-game series starting on Friday at 1 p.m. CSI defeated the Eagles in all four games last month in Twin Falls.
All four games of the series against CSI will be broadcast live on youtube.com/usueastern and koalitv.com.
