It’s the time of year when Green River High School seniors bid farewell for the final time as they walk in front of their families, friends and classmates to receive their long-awaited diplomas.

The Pirates Class of 2018 was celebrated at their commencement on Thursday evening in the school’s auditorium. The class of 14 walked the aisles to the stage to kick off the ceremony. Senior Daniela Mendez welcomed those in attendance and thanked them for their support throughout the years.

Salutatorian Miranda Johnson was next to address her fellow classmates and was followed by valedictorian Lindsey McFarlane. Following McFarlane, Green River High alumni Ren Hatt spoke to the graduates about the good changes and challenges life can present itself. Hatt graduated with the class of 2003 and served as salutatorian of his class.

After a slideshow dedicated to the graduates, diplomas were presented by principal Kayce Fluckey, Emery School District Superintendent Larry Davis and other school board members.

Graduate Freddy Escalante closed the night with a speech and tassels were turned, ending the graduates high school careers.
