Last October, now-councilwoman Malarie Matsuda approached the Helper City Council to request approval on hosting a trunk or treat event on the city’s main street. The event, which was hosted in the Rio Theater parking lot and was followed by a viewing of the Halloween classic “Hocus Pocus,” was a huge success.

This year, Matsuda spoke with her fellow council members on once again hosting the event. She stated that it would take place on the Saturday before Halloween, Oct. 27, and would run from 12 to 3 p.m. According to Matsuda, people have already reached out to her in excitement for this year’s trunk or treat. Due to room accommodation and a need for less dust, the idea to close Main Street and host the event in front of city hall was proposed.

The council members were in agreement on the location and a closing of Main Street was scheduled to begin that day at around 10 a.m. from the bowling alley to the area just before the post office. Matsuda stated that previously, at least 40 cars were a part of the event and she hopes to bring in more.

Candy donations for the trunk or treat are also being accepted at the city hall.
