Emery hosted the Union Cougars on Tuesday night, November 27. The Spartans jumped out to a quick lead and were up 20-13 at the end of the first quarter. The game was sloppy at times for both teams. Emery ended with 18 turnovers but it was the Spartans that were able to ultimately capitalize on quick scores off of 22 Cougar turnovers. The Spartans finished with 19 steals and 19 assists, which illustrated the aggressive and selfless nature of the team.
Emery increased their lead with a dominating second quarter and went into halftime up by 16, 39-23. Brax Jensen got going with a step back three in the third quarter and then hit a NBA-range three to provide the Spartans with additional breathing room. Emery held a twenty point lead as quarter ended 52-32.
The fourth quarter turned into a run and gun period as both teams exploded with 20+ points. Reid Price ended the game with 21 points for Union but they were not able to overcome the deficit. The Spartans controlled the game from start to finish for their second straight win, 73-61.
Kyson Stilson was the leading scorer on the Spartans with 22 points, 4 rebounds and 5 assists while Jensen finished with 17 points, 7 assists and 7 steals. Mason Faimalo had a breakout game off the bench with 17 points and 4 rebounds. Kyler Wilstead lead the team with 8 rebounds of his own.
Up next, the Spartans look to remain undefeated as they take on Maple Mountain on Friday, November 30 at the Spartan Center.
