Press Release

One of the fringe benefits of having USU Eastern in our community is the alliance we have with other USU Departments and Faculty. Next week, this fringe benefit becomes a great privilege as we have the opportunity to hear from Dr. Craig Jessop, Dean of the Caine College of the Arts at USU. Dr. Jessop is stepping down as dean this summer, but before he does so he wants to strengthen the Arts in all USU schools and communities. On Thursday, Jan. 24 at 7:30 p.m. in the Geary Event Center, Dr. Jessop will share a multimedia lecture titled “The Power of Music.”

Many know Dr. Jessop for his years as director and as assistant director of the Mormon Tabernacle Choir. However, before this position, he earned the prestigious rank of lieutenant colonel in the United States Air Force and was director of the US Air Force Singing Sergeants for almost a decade. During this time and throughout his life, Dr. Jessop has witnessed the profound changes that music can have on the human heart and mind, from enriching and elucidating to healing. We look forward to hearing from his half-century of full-time engagement with music at the highest levels to help reveal to us the true power of music.

In addition, Dr. Jessop will be directing a USU Eastern and Community Choir and Orchestra event called “Let There Be Music.” The concert will also include numbers from the Logan Canyon Winds Ensemble and a piano solo on USU Eastern’s new Steinway concert grand piano. This event will also take place at the Geary Event Center on Saturday, Jan. 26 at 7:30 p.m. Although both events are free, seating is limited and is first-come, first-served.
