Patrick Fehlberg was sworn in as a new committee member of the Planning and Zoning Board for Huntington City on Wednesday evening at the city’s council meeting. He will fill the vacancy left when David Emery was selected to be a new council member.
Also during the meeting, two new business licenses were approved by the council, including Mitchell Funeral Home, which recently purchased Miller’s Landing. The staff at Mitchell Funeral Home decided to expand their location to Huntington to better serve the needs of their Emery County families. Miller’s Landing is presently under lease and that lease will be honored until September.
The other business license approved was for Back Rhodes Beauty. This is a beauty salon that will be located in the Winks and Waves Shop on Main Street in Huntington. Various services will be offered, including perms, cosmetics, haircuts, facials, and spa services.
The new by-laws, Article IV, prepared and presented by the city’s fire department were then discussed. The approval was granted along with appreciation for the work expediently completed by the fire department. These by-laws changed the way a new fire chief is appointed and the ranking structure of the department. The by-laws will also give more power to the fire board. The consideration of paying for the physical exams for firefighters was tabled until the next meeting pending forms and prices. The fire department also reported that five members are completing the wildlands fire training at the base level. Others are involved in addiational trainings as well.
It was also reported during the meeting that Title 9 of the Zoning Ordinance 3-2019 was amended. This ordinance listed regulations for political signs used in campaigning and where they can be placed as well as the length of time they can be displayed.
The mayor’s report regarded the parking of trailers, vehicles and other items on the sidewalks around the city. He asked that citizens please remove them from the sidewalks and also addressed the areas of construction coming to Huntington, including the west side and Main Street.
Other council members extended thanks to the maintenance crew for the many things they do for the city. They reported that the baseball fields are ready for play and sprinklers are running.
