Representatives from the Manti La-Sal National Forest announced on Thursday afternoon that the Mammoth Fire near Huntington Reservoir has grown to two acres.
Reportedly, the fire is being managed as a full-suppression fire. “A Type 4 team that includes the Snake River Hotshots and members of the Skyline Initial Attack Module is fighting the fire,” representatives shared. “Cool, wet weather is expected throughout today and tomorrow, which will give crews an opportunity to contain the fire without calling for additional resources. A drying trend is expected Monday.”
The fire is burning in heavy timber on a steep slope south of Huntington Reservoir and is visible from the parking lot at the reservoir on SR-31, it was reported.
“The fire was first reported the morning of July 24 and had been ignited by lightning,” the Manti La-Sal National Forest shared.
Forest Service representatives urge cation while traveling and camping in the area. Fire traffic is expected to add to typical holiday traffic on forest roads.
