The Utah State University Eastern Cheer Squad and mascot Emmett the Eagle traveled to the NCA and USA Collegiate Camp held in Las Vegas, Nevada on Aug. 1-3. While at this camp, the cheer team learned new skills in stunting as well as game day material to entertain the crowds during home athletic competitions this year. They received three blue ribbons in all of their evaluations and came home with a bronze bid to nationals.
Emmett learned new skills, played pranks on fellow universities, performed with other mascots, and even took to the Vegas Strip to meet and take pictures with the public. Emmett was awarded the “Most Improved Mascot.”
“Coaches Kelley Bradley and Austin Kennedy have a great team this year and are excited to see what comes out of this group. The team is self-motivated and encouraged by each other in their team goals and personal efforts. In just one week, we’ve been able to see them accomplish more than we even expected so early in the season. We hope to travel and compete in the collegiate cheer nationals again spring semester,” said USU Eastern Spirit Squad Director Brandi Johansen.
