The Pinnacle Panthers welcomed rival Green River into town on Wednesday. Pinnacle scored first in the bottom of the third but then gave up four runs over the next two innings. The Pirates shut the door completely with a three-run seventh inning and won 7-2.
Sophomore Michael Schmitz led the way going 3-4 with a double and an RBI. Stetson Motte also went 3-4 with a triple and a double for the Panthers. Motte was also Pinnacle’s best pitcher going three innings without allowing any earned runs.
Preston Marshall, a senior for Green River, had an excellent game at the plate, going 3-4 with a triple and two RBIs. Axel Anguiano bent but did not break on the mound for the Pirates. He went 5 1/3 innings, struck out five and gave up 11 hits but only two earned runs. Fellow senior Sam Corrigan came in and closed out the last 1 2/5 innings and only gave up one hit and no runs.
