Chris Haycock of Active Re-Entry hosts the organization’s youth program as well as the community integration program. Each program is set to teach those that attend ways to make every day life easier and more enjoyable with a set of skill trainings.
The youth program is for those that are ages eight to 24. Attendees learn independent living skills and social skills as well as participate in recreational activities. While the activities, as well as the program in general, is free for all, an admission fee is required for the activities at times. The activities range from bowling and fishing to arts and crafts.
The program is intended for any youth that has a disability, no matter which type. A doctor’s note to diagnose the disability is not needed; self-proclaimed are welcomed.
One activity per month is hosted in Carbon County and one in Emery County during the school year. However, during the summertime, there is generally one or two activities per week. For the transition portion, Haycock is happy to visit the individual’s school and meet with the student and parent. He is also able to attend the IEPs if needed and will get them connected with vocational rehab to get the process started.
The program works to get individuals from either education to secondary school into college or figure out what their path is and what they wish to do following school, whether it be a job coach, employment or the like. Transportation is provided for the youth program.
For the community integration portion, individuals aged 25 and older are welcome. Many of the same skills such as cooking, budgeting, goal setting and advocacy, as well as self confidence, are taught and recreational activities also take place.
