Press Release
Helper City is excited to move forward with securing funding for a geographical information system, commonly known as GIS. This will enable city personnel to utilize a system to capture and store critical information about Helper City’s infrastructure. This includes information such as pipe locations, sizes, maintenance records and more in a centralized system. The water and sewer work previously performed will be incorporated into the system and public works personnel will have the ability to add information about roads and road maintenance as well as electrical grid information.
This tool will enable the city to have a central repository of information about infrastructure and increase its ability to effectively address issues, record maintenance activities and more. More importantly, this is the next critical step in understanding the city’s infrastructure. It positions the city to move forward with solid records of activities and removes single points of failure in overall infrastructural activities.
In order to pursue this system, Helper’s City Council recently hosted a public hearing and voted to move forward with grant funding from the Community Impact Board (CIB). The application will be presented to the CIB on Oct. 1 for consideration.
“This is a significant improvement for city employees to respond to issues and to proactively manage the various systems we provide to our citizens,” Helper City Mayor Lenise Peterman said. “This will positively impact the entire community and remove single points of failure in system understanding, repair and maintenance. We hope CIB will give it serious consideration as we look toward our future as a sustainable community.”
