In their first game of the 3A State Soccer Tournament, the Lady Dinos hosted the San Juan Lady Broncos on Wednesday. Carbon had handled San Juan in the teams’ two previous meetings this year, beating them by eight points both times.
Carbon controlled the ball for most of the first half but could not find the back of the net. The Lady Dinos finally broke through and took the lead with four minutes left in the half.
The Broncos did not go away in the second half and kept fighting. The Lady Dinos were awarded a penalty kick seven minutes into the half, however. Grace Broadbear converted the chance to double Carbon’s lead to 2-0. The Lady Dinos sealed the game with another goal with just nine minutes remaining. They then scored one more time three minutes later and went on to win 4-0.
Along with Broadbear, Kacie Brady had a goal and Ryan Brady put two in for Carbon. Emma Flemett recorded five saves in the goal.
