Utah Division of Wildlife Resources Press Release
Utah’s most popular hunt, the general rifle buck deer hunt begins Oct. 19. More than 60,000 hunters, along with their family and friends, are expected to be in Utah’s back country that day.
In addition to being in the field themselves, biologists with the Division of Wildlife Resources have visited with hunters who participated in this year’s archery and muzzleloader buck deer hunts. “We’ve received a lot of good reports from hunters this fall,” stated DWR spokesman, Mark Hadley. “Hunters should see more bucks, especially younger ones.”
Anyone who does not have a permit for the upcoming hunt, don’t worry, it’s not too late to get one. Permits are still available for two units in northern Utah. Currently, there are 194 permits available for unit one and 187 permits for units four, five and six.
Starting at 8 a.m. on Oct. 7, you can buy one of the remaining permits by visiting www.wildlife.utah.gov/dwr/hunting/hunting-permits.html. Once you’re on the page, click on the ‘buy a permit online’ option in the paragraph at the bottom of the page.
Starting at 8 a.m. on Oct. 7, permits will also be available from more than 300 hunting license agents across Utah and at DWR offices in Ogden, Salt Lake City, Springville, Vernal, Price and Cedar City.
A hunt preview for each of Utah’s 30 deer hunting units is available at https://go.usa.gov/D6HP.
