The Elmo Town Council discussed the town’s town hall and fire station remodel during a recent meeting.
By Julie Johansen
Following Elmo Town Mayor James Winn’s welcome to the recent council meeting, Maria Johansen, animal control officer for the town, announced a rabies clinic scheduled for Jan. 11 from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. She plans to advertise for the event and late fees will not be charged until after February. The late fee charge will be $5.
Jared Hansen of Jones and DeMille Engineering announced that there is a fund-seeking app that can be used to help find funds for town projects, such as water or road projects. This app is available through the Jones and DeMille Engineering website. Councilman Stoney Jensen then inquired about the timeline for the Elmo Fire Station/Town Hall remodel project. It was stated that it should be ready by early spring. Elmo Town Recorder Delena Fish informed the council that she had contacted Jeanette Johnson who said that the passing of the Municipal Building Authority resolution will have to be delayed until next month’s meeting so that more research can be done.
Mayor Winn then stated that it is evident that the animal control officer’s wages need to be increased. Councilman Jensen made a motion to raise the wages to $12/hour and councilman Bert Reed seconded the motion. Following a roll call vote, the motion passed unanimously by all present.
The next item on the agenda was Community Get Together Events. Mayor Winn said that October Get Together went very well. November’s event was cancelled as the month was so busy. The mayor then asked Johansen if she could have the cookie decorating event ready for December. If so, the event will happen.
Next, a business license application from Frank and Shelly Burgess was reviewed. They have a mobile power washing business that cleans roads, decks, etc. in Carbon, Emery, and Grand counties. The license was granted by the council.
Recorder Fish reported that she received a phone call from UCI Scanning and Micrographics offering to scan documents for Elmo Town. Fish questioned how they would access the documents and what their procedures are. The council members felt that they needed more information so the item was tabled until next month’s meeting.
In the councilman’s report, Jensen reminded those in attendance that more power boxes for Christmas decorations need to be replaced. It was decided previously to limit the number to a few each year because of the cost. Another reminder given was that the roads in Elmo are open to ATV traffic.
Following a motion to pay the town’s bills, the meeting was adjourned.
