Nearly 600 gifts for local senior citizens have the Notre Dame Hope Center bursting at the seams as volunteers prepare to assist Santa with present delivery this holiday season.

The fifth annual senior angel tree boasted 575 ornaments this year. By the end of Saturday, approximately 150 senior citizens will receive multiple gifts to brighten up their holidays. Requested gifts range from coats to food and from pet toys to household items.

Recipients of these gifts span throughout Carbon and Emery counties while those that donated gifts ranged from individuals to families and businesses throughout the community.

Nancy Labahn, the organizer of the program, said she has been overwhelmed by the generosity of the community. She said many that donated didn’t have much themselves, making their donation even more special.

Now that all of the gifts have been bought and wrapped, volunteers are being sought to help deliver gifts throughout the community. Those that wish to volunteer their time should meet in the back parking lot of the Notre Dame Hope Center at 9 a.m. this Saturday, Dec. 14. There, each volunteer will be gifted their own elf hat to mark them as one of Santa’s special helpers this holiday season.
