The Carbon County Commissioners were recently visited with a request for the newly-formed Carbon County Mammoth’s Hockey Club to use the ice pond at the county fairgrounds for practices.
The club was formed by Megan Marshall with her son and one of the coaches joining her at the meeting to present information on the club. When prompted to discuss the club, Marshall had much to say.
“ICE HOCKEY IS HERE! Aptly named, honoring our local prehistoric roots, the Carbon County Mammoths are offering the opportunity for youth ages 6 to 18 to learn the basics for FREE! Organized & taught by a group of local volunteers, the group is working toward their 501(c)(3) status for fundraisers and to attain the ultimate goal of becoming full-fledged teams, with the ability to compete on a state & national level. With the support from the Carbon and Emery County Commissioners, weekly practice is held on the Carbon County Fairgrounds Ice Pond as well as the Castle Dale City Ice Pond. (Conditions Permitting) Understanding the equipment is a large upfront investment, these volunteers have paid for and acquired a lot of gear for kids to borrow while they’re trying it out. The group also plans on bringing the kids to professional hockey games and indoor rinks around the state. Support for this group has been phenomenal, with more equipment being donated by individuals and over 18 children signed up already. More players are needed to become a team next season and adult volunteers are welcome as well. To sign up or for more information, please visit their Facebook page CarbonCountyMammoths, join them Thursdays at Carbon County fairgrounds Ice Pond at 5:30 p.m., or call Megan Marshall at (435) 650-0698.”
These practices recently began as the club met to hone their skills on the ice last week.
