Carbon’s annual homecoming game took place on Friday night when Manti took the field. As in games past, it took some time for Carbon to get going. As a result, the Dinos found themselves in a 15-0 hole after the first quarter. Nathan Morley capped off a long drive and put the Dinos on the board with a two-yard run, making it 15-7.
With just under three minutes in the half, the Dinos had Manti behind the sticks in a third-and-long. Carbon not only had a chance to get a stop and get off the field, but there was even enough time to draw closer before half. That would not be the case, however, as Manti converted on third down. The Templars marched down the field and connected on a 36-yard pass to go back up by 15.
Carbon elected to be aggressive, and that came back to bite the Dinos after a turnover allowed Manti another score before the half. With an even bigger deficit, the Dinos forced the issue once more, and again Keaton Rich was picked off. Manti needed only two plays to find the end zone for the third time in less than two minutes. After the two-minute debacle, the Dinos trailed 36-7 at the half.
Credit Carbon for not giving up, however. The Dinos forced an early stop coming out of the half, causing Manti to punt. Mason Vasquez further cemented his Tram Electric Player of the Game status with an 85-yard return for the score.
Carbon came even closer in the fourth with a six-yard touchdown run by Moss, making it 36-21. Although, Manti iced the game with its next possession, scoring its sixth touchdown. The Templars went on to win by that same score, 43-21.
