Press Release
Approximately 130 people attended the Emergency Preparedness/Provident Living Expo on Saturday, Sept. 18 at the Ferron Stake Center. The expo was hosted by the Ferron Stake of the Church of Jesus Christs of Latter-day Saints. The preparedness expo gave the community tools to respond to a wide variety of large scale and personal disasters.
The expo was a great place for the whole family to come and learn about what to do in an emergency in a fun and educational way. There were safety demonstrations by Ken Kraudy from Be Ready Utah; Christine Jensen, MS, CFCS from the Emery County Extension Service; Kirk Jensen from the Southeastern Utah Health Department and Linda White from the Red Cross.
Attendees saw exhibit booths and demonstrations, including information on basic family emergency planning, awareness and resources, cooking and canning methods, first aid, CERT, ham and GMRS radios, food storage, water storage and filtration, physical health, and financial preparedness. Ferron City brought a fire truck and ambulance for the emergency vehicle tours. The Emery County Sheriff’s Office had a vehicle as well.
At the event, a youth Dutch oven contest was hosted. The winners were Lidia and Dorian Price. Lidia won the “Best Dessert” and Dorian won the “Best Main Dish.” They both won a cash prize of $50 each.
The committee would like to express appreciation to the many sponsors of the expo, including Castleview Hospital, Desertview Federal Credit Union, Jones Ace Hardware, Magnuson Lumber, Main Street Market, Stewart’s, Pepsi, BK’s Stop & Shop, Castle Valley Supply, the Emery County Sheriff’s Office, Ferron City, Be Ready Utah, Emery County Extension Service and the Southeastern Utah Health Department.
