Carbon Tennis Competes at State Championships

The Carbon High School tennis team competed at the UHSAA 3A State Championships held at Liberty Park in Salt Lake City. Participating in the single were Nicholas Bryner, Memphis Howell and Cameron Jones. In the doubles events were teams of Zander Carillo / Josiah Trostle and Judson Varner / Carter Abbott.

All of the singles and doubles teams would get through the first round, making it to the round of 16 in each of the five brackets. Bryner claimed the victory in his matchup in two sets, both scored at 6-1. Howell went three sets, securing two set victories by score of 6-4, for the match win. Jones and went the distance with his opponent, falling in the first set after a tiebreaker scenario. He would come back and take the next two sets 7-5 and 7-3 securing a spot in the round of 16.

Carillo and Trostle fell in their first set, but battled back winning the next two sets with scores of 6-4 and 6-2. Varner and Abbott won their doubles match in two sets, the first in sudden death 7-6 and the second with a score of 7-5. Carbon would face some tough schools in the round of 16 including Waterford, Rowland Hall and Judge Memorial. The season would come to an end as the young Dino team couldn’t get past the experience of their opponents. The boys worked hard and had a great season, the future is bright for the young men.
