The Emery Historical Society enjoyed a tour of a remarkable collection of original creations beyond the “UFO Landing Site” roadside sign on Highway 10 just past Clawson Town.
Vaughn and Elna Reid have created an unbelievable display of antiques, salvaged and re-purposed domestic and industrial items, not only along the road but inside their home, as well as a blacksmith shop, dugout, sewing room, stick building and workshops. The Lofty “Tree Room” is built around a 400-year-old tree harvested from Horn Mountain. All of their displays are a tribute to the history of the local area. The “Grandpa Wall” is a tribute to the timber industry of which Vaughn’s grandfather was a leader.
He has beautifully-crafted furniture made from juniper, cottonwood, cherry, aspen, tamarisk and mountain mahogany. Vaughn even has a “Keebler Cookie” tree trunk home and all of his antiques are repurposed. “The items just tell [us] where they should be used,” was a comment made during the tour.
The tour took place on Saturday, June 22 and was a big enjoyment and, to some, quite a surprise at what all was there.
