The youth swim team Castle Valley Barracudas traveled to Payson on June 29 for a swim meet, featuring five different age groups performing against a number of different schools. Starting with the seven to nine age group, Lydia Irvine swam well, finishing first place in both the 25 Free and 25 Fly. She also placed second in the 25 Back to round out an impressive day. Amin Halk claimed the top spot in the 25 Breast, along with fourth in the 25 Free and sixth in the 25 Back.
In the nine to10 age group, Eliza Irvine would snag a couple first place finishes in the 25 Breast and 100 IM, also placing fourth in the stacked 50 Free. Grant Luke finished second in the 25 Fly and first place in the 25 Breast. William Harding placed second in the Fly and fifth in the 25 Back.
Moving to the 11-12 age group, another Irvine had a solid showing as Suzannah Irvine placed first in the 50 Free, and second place in both the 50 Fly and 100 IM. Genevieve Halk had a nice day, getting the top spot in the 50 Back, second in the 50 Free and third in the 50 Breast. McKenna Luke snagged third place in the 50 Fly and 50 Back, with a ninth spot in the 50 Free. Gavin Wilcox placed second in the 50 Breast, fourth in the 50 Back and seventh in the 50 Free. William Kepsel had a fantastic day, finishing number one in the 50 Breast, along with a second in both the 50 Free and 50 Fly. Tiago Harding finished 24 in the 50 Free and tenth in the 50 Breast. Braxton Hawley finished 27 in the 50 Free and twelfth in the 50 Back.
Onto the 13-14 age group, Jessi King competed very well, finishing number one in both the 50 Free and 50 Fly. Brylie Horsley also swam well with a first place in the 100 Free, second in the 50 Fly and third in the 50 Free. Spencer Hawley placed eighth in the 50 Free, with two third place finishes in the 50 Fly and 100 IM. Cohen Sullivan placed tenth in the 50 Free and third in the 50 Breast. Ansley Harding snagged eleventh in the 50 Free, as well as seventh in the 100 Free and fourth in the 50 Breast.
For the final age group of 15-18, Carbon Lady Dino Lisa King had a great day in the water. King placed first in both the 50 Free and 100 Back. Fellow Lady Dino Maya Bower represented the team well, with a first place in the 50 Fly and third in the 100 Free. Erika Witmore would finish in the eighth spot in the 100 Free and eleventh in the tough 50 Free event. Carlos Mendoza would grab the fifteenth spot in the 50 Free, wrapping up the hometown swimmers. The Barracudas will be back at it on Tuesday, July 9, at 4 p.m. against the San Rafael Stingrays at the Desert Wave Pool.
