With the Fourth of July falling on Thursday this year, Huntington Heritage Days spread out over more days than usual. The annual rodeo started on Friday, June 28, with hundreds of spectators and crowd favorites such as hide race and other traditional rodeo events. Continuing on Saturday, June 29, was another crowd pleaser specialty act, the Ring of Fire.
On Sunday evening, at the Huntington Latter Day Saint Stake house, the Huntington Men’s Glee Club performed a patriotic fireside honoring America, “Our Lives, Our Fortune, and Our Sacred Honor”. The flag ceremony was directed by the American Legion and the musical numbers were narrated by Doug Mecham, with special emphasis on World War II, those who served and were buried in Germany. Many tears were shed by audience members attending this touching and inspiring evening.
On Wednesday, July 3, entertainment began at six in the evening with the Fox Brothers, followed by an ice cream social. These fun times were found at Canyon View Middle School, including the Hypno Hick. A bike parade and cornhole tourney was also on Wednesday.
The morning of the Fourth of July began early with a breakfast at 7:30 a.m. The parade was a big hit with hundreds who lined Huntington’s Main Street. A large number of bounce houses and a climbing wall was ready at the middle school for kid’s activities following the parade. Entertainment filled the afternoon featuring, Restless, Hypno Hick and Annie Oveson.
The featured entertainer was Charlie Jenkins, whose show began at 7 p.m. The grand finale of the celebration was the popular fireworks show at dusk.
