Lady Dinos Continue to Dominate the Golf Course

The Lady Dinos golf team competed in region play on Wednesday as they traveled to Sky Mountain Resort to compete in a North Sanpete nine-hole match. The team then played in Spanish Fork on Thursday.

Carbon jumped out strong by winning first place honors at Sky Mountain Resort. The Dinos won by 38 points with a team total of 140. Richfield finished in second place with 102 points while North Sanpete and Juab tied for third place with 84 points.

Kaycee Gilson and Taylor Hammack tied for medalist honors with 36 points each. Braxton Gibson finished with 35 and Katie Felice and Hailey Kirkwood both had 33 points.

Going head-to-head with Spanish Fork, Carbon put up a stroke total of 377 to win by eight over the Dons. Felice shot 88, Kirkwood 94, Gibson 96 and Gilson came in with a stroke total of 99 during the 18-hole event.

“The girls are amazing,” stated Carbon coach Kenji Otani. “We haven’t been playing at our best the last couple of weeks, but the girls have been grinding it out and that is the true test of a player. I am their biggest fan and I admire their perseverance and dedication.”

Currently, Carbon is ranked first in Region 12 standings with a total of 354 points. The team is 96 points ahead of Richfield, who is ranked second with 258 points.

Five Lady Dinos are leading the way in individual region standings. Felice is ranked first, followed by Kirkwood in second, Gibson in third, Gilson fourth and Hammack is ranked fifth.

Carbon will host a home tournament on Wednesday and travel to Payson on Thursday to compete in their final region match of the season. The region tournament will take place in Richfield on April 30.
