Lady Dinos Sweep Back-To-Back Golf Tournaments

As the high school girls spring golf season draws to a close, the Carbon Lady Dinos continue to dominate the course as they prepare for postseason play. According to Carbon coach Kenji Otani, the team is strong and should fare quite well at state.

The Dinos had another week of back-to-back tournaments, which resulted in two wins. On Wednesday, the team hosted their home region match. Carbon won the nine-hole tournament by 45 points with a team score of 138. Juab finished in second place with 93 points and Richfield placed third with 89.

Hailey Kirkwood led the way for the Dinos with 38 points, landing her medalist honors. Katie Felice finished with 36 points and Kaycee Gilson had 33 while Braxton Gibson and Taylor Hammack scored 31 points each.

Carbon’s junior varsity team went head-to-head with Richfield during the home meet. The Lady Dinos came out on top by 24 points and was lead by Lexi Garcia, who finished with 22 points. Keely Marquez completed the match with 18 and Aajah Breinholt scored 13 points.

Following the successful home tournament, Carbon teed it up in Payson on Thursday. Coach Otani explained that the girls played on sanded greens but managed to pull out a 43 point victory.

Gibson grabbed the medalist honor with 39 points. Kirkwood scored 37, Felice 34 and Gilson finished with 33 for a team total of 143 points. Richfield placed second with 100 points and Juab third with 99.

“All I can say is wow,” Otani exclaimed. “This team is exceeding all of their goals. We do not have a weak position on this team. Now, it is about preparing for state.”

The Lady Dinos will enter the region tournament on April 30 ranked first, then it is on to the state tournament on May 14.
