Students at Ferron Elementary were recognized Thursday for being “Liberty Kids.” Liberty Kids is an academic program where the students strive to meet areas of focus by grade. To become a Liberty Kid, the students must improve their academics, citizenship, service and patriotism.
As part of the program, students have to complete a set number of hours of community service and write an essay. The focus for preschool students is sharing, for indergarten, respect, responsibility for first grade, service for second grade, trustworthy for third grade, kindness for the fourth grade, freedom for fifth grade and hope for sixth grade.
The Liberty Kids were presented with awards during an assembly. Afterwards, students went outside to the playground for a “powder activity”. The powder activity consisted of colored powder being tossed onto the students in a celebration for their hard work during the school year.
The Liberty Committee organized the celebration and joined the students in the fun by dancing and throwing the colored powder. The ladies of the Liberty Committee are Alicia Burr, Vicki Nielson, LuAnn Sorensen and Stephanie Roper.
