After jumping out to an early lead, the Emery High School softball team lost its composure and dropped a region contest at Manti.
Leading 3-0 after one inning, the Lady Spartans succumbed to the mercy rule after just five innings, losing 14-4.
Emery committed nine errors during the five innings of play.
Makia Sherman and Markette Tanner led the Spartans’ offense with two hits apiece.
The loss dropped Emery to 1-1 in Region 12 play. The team next plays against Juab on Friday at 3:30 p.m. in Castle Dale.
