Teachers and students packed the Carbon County School Board meeting on Wednesday as they anticipated recognition of awards in many state and national event competitions.
Awards and names were read at the podium as students of all ages were presented with awards. The victors returned from competitions in Skills USA , Welding, В FBLA, Sterling Scholar and FCCLA.
The Board then heard from community members as the meeting was opened to the floor.
Bill Krompel encouraged the board to develop the math, chemistry and physics programs in the County. He also advised the board to use local industry as a resource to help with science and math curriculum in the Carbon School District.
Action items that were discussed were the budget, capital projects plan, and refinancing of school board bonds.
The capital projects plan included getting a new bus, and possibly adding new parking areas to the Wellington Elementary and Mont Harmon Junior High. A resolution to set parameters on bonds that would save taxpayers an estimated $50 thousand was passed.
The board considered the effects of the Newcomer Program and other options to address the needs of English Language Learning students. The population of ELL students has increased from 10 to almost 100 in the last five years.
The Board also narrowed the number of potential Superintendents to five.
