Statements from Utah Legislators on the death of Osama bin Laden:
U.S. Senator Orrin Hatch-
“Nearly 10 years after 3,000 innocent Americans were brutally killed on September 11th, Osama bin Laden has been tracked down and killed. Our nation is built on the principle of liberty and justice for all – and today, justice was finally brought to one of the most ruthless terrorists our world has ever known.
“Our thanks and praise goes to our dedicated and courageous men and women of our military, intelligence services and law enforcement who have tirelessly fought this terrorist threat. В Our thoughts and prayers continue to go to the loved ones of those lost on that dreadful day, but who now have some sense of justice served. And this is a strong reminder that regardless of our differences, that our nation remains united as a shining beacon for freedom, liberty and prosperity around the globe.
“While the War on Terror is not over, we should all rejoice in his death that is a major setback for Al Queda and its followers.”
Congressman Jim Matheson-
“Bin Laden is the face of horrific acts around the world and the world is a better place with him gone.
“I commend our men and women in uniform and in the intelligence community—especially our Utah soldiers who have served—for their bravery and their sacrifice. We must remain vigilant as a country in the face of possible retribution from terrorists.
“Ultimately the cause of peace and justice is America’s cause and what we must pursue, as so many in countries throughout the world show an outpouring of desire for freedom.”
Congressman Jason Chaffetz-
“The United States of America is about justice. This is justice. Thanks to the ongoing and tenacious pursuit by the US military, the world is free from Osama Bin Laden’s long reign of terror. Words are insufficient to express my gratitude toward those who risked their lives in the hunt for this enemy to freedom. We must give pause for those who lost their lives at his command. Justice is finally served.”
Congressman Rob Bishop-
“It is awkward to celebrate anyone’s death, but it is impossible to feel remorse for one who has caused so much pain and needless suffering in the world. None of us are better for having experienced bin Laden”s savagery and absolute indifference to human life. The world is better without him. I thank those who risked their lives to bring justice.”
