The Emery County School Board met at Ferron Elementary on Wednesday evening.
Donna Thomas was awarded Support Staff Employee of 2010-2011 school year. Thomas has been with the School District for 21 years. SheВ is always asking for ways sheВ canВ improve the lunch experience and goes out her way to make it fun for the students at Cottonwood and Castle Dale Elementary.
Tricia Zwahlen was awarded School Teacher of the Year award for 2010-2011 school year. Zwahlen has been with the school district for 26 years. She currently teaches sixth grade at Huntington Elementary.
Dixie Fielder talked to the board about the ninth grade orientation they had this year and plan to do again next year. The ninth graders from both junior highs were bussed to the high school for a day. They also held a night meeting with parents. Students reported the program helped ease the transition to the high school.
Ninety-two junior and senior students took buses to USU-Eastern where an SUU medical group held a fair. The fair featured opportunities forВ dissecting chicken legs, giving shots to dummies and making casts forВ one another. Every one involved felt this was a great hands-on experience.
The next board meeting with be June 1.
