Price City Police Department Press Release

On Sunday, at about 3:30 p.m., Price City Police Detective Chris Pugliese, attempted to stop a vehicle in an alley near Carbon Ave. for an equipment violation. The driver and only occupant of the vehicle, later identified as William Uptain, 34 of Green River, allegedly fled at a high rate of speed. The pursuit was called off after only two blocks because of safety concerns.

Uptain attempted to turn onto 500 South near Melody Estates, but was unable to negotiate the turn because of an excessively high rate of speed. Uptain went out of control into a vacant field and came to a stop when he crashed into a ditch. He then allegedly fled on foot.

The subject was later located in the Roscrea apartment complex where he had allegedly gained entry into an apartment, in which he he does not live in. Here, Uptain tried to hide himself and illegal drugs he was carrying.  He allegedly was found to be in possession of two grams of methamphetamine and eight grams of heroin, both packaged for distribution, as well as a digital police scanner with which he was able to monitor police and dispatch radio communications.

Uptain was booked into the Carbon County Jail for possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine and heroin, felony evading, driving on an alcohol revoked license and a laundry list of other traffic related charges.

Uptain has a significant criminal history allegedly involving alcohol, drugs, weapons and violence.
