Weather continues to delay the opening of many roads, trails and campgrounds on the Manti-La Sal National Forest, and representatives from the Price Field Office are concerned about public safety over the upcoming holiday weekend. The following is an update of local conditions:
In Huntington Canyon, Bridges Campground and all those higher will be closed. Old Folks Flat and lower campgrounds will be open.
In Joes Valley, the campground and recreation sites around the reservoir are open, though there is no water available. Higher elevation roads and camping areas are closed.
In Ferron Canyon, the Ferron Picnic Area and Wrigley Springs Reservoir are accessible, although roads are muddy and trailers should not be pulled up the Dugway or into Wrigley. The Ferron to Mayfield Road is closed from the top of the Dugway.
Do not attempt to use trails, as most are impassable due to saturated soils, snow drifts, slides and fallen trees. Mudslides are beginning to occur throughout the Forest. Do not attempt to cross a slide. The downhill side of a slide is soft and treacherous.
