Summer is typically the most deadly time of year on Utah roads. In an effort to make summer travel safer, the Utah Highway Patrol has issued several public service announcements and continues to patrol roads throughout the state.
During the July 4 weekend, troopers stepped up enforcement efforts and made a total of 4,103 traffic stops in Utah. The UHP alone issued 2,670 speeding tickets and 268 seatbelt citations. Highway patrol also made 60 DUI arrests and 40 other alcohol arrests over the holiday weekend.
Finally, UHP investigated 126 crashes, two of which included fatalities. In total, nine travelers lost their lives on a Utah highway this July 4 weekend.
