July 31 marks National Heat Stroke Prevention Day. Last year, 44 kids died in hot cars and eighteen have died in 2014. 100% of these deaths were preventable. SafeKids.org is a worldwide organization working to help keep kids safe. There is an “Act Now Toolkit” on this website.
Safe Kids Worldwide offers some common sense ways to keep kids safe from heatstroke. Remember to ACT:
A: Avoid heatstroke by never leaving your child alone in a car and make sure to keep your car locked so kids don’t get in on their own.
C: Create reminders by putting something in the back of your car next to your child, such as a briefcase, purse or cell phone.
T: Take action. If you see a child alone in a car, call 911. Emergency personnel want you to call. They are trained to respond to these situations. One call could save a life.
