Scofield Reservoir reached its peak about a month ago and began to spill for the first time since 1999.
Weather patterns have prevented the reservoir’s spillway from letting overflow waters run from the lake. Large snow deposits and an extremely wet late spring and early summer have allowed the spillway to run for nearly a month.
Officials will begin to slowly let water out of other outlets within in the week, which will begin to slow the spilling.
Inlets to the reservoir haven’t been this full since the flood year in 1983. All the extra water has attracted more patrons.
