Emery County School Board members discussed Wednesday a policy change that would allow the school district to hire retired teachers after only 60 days of retirement.
The policy change would allow the district to hire more qualified long-term substitute teachers by reducing the one-year wait time on hiring retired educators.
Superintendent Kirk Sitterud said, “This is a good thing for us; it was needed.”
Teachers hired under the new policy would not be eligible to receive benefits within the first year of re-employment.
Notes:
Superintendent Sitterud is now the second-longest tenured superintendent in Utah. Sitterud has 15 years of experience.
Business Administrator Jared Black reported a new Safe Schools Program would be available for district employees to view online. The new format should allow easier access and training.
