WASHINGTON, UTAH – Our loving husband and father, Conrad LaVar Facer, 82, died August 9, 2014 in Washington, Utah. He was born June 15, 1932 in Smithfield, Utah to Lester E. Facer and Rosabel Bingham. He married Karlene Hyer October 27, 1949 in Pocatello, Idaho.
He graduated from North Cache High School. He obtained a Bachelor’s Degree in Education from Utah State University. He taught at Westside High School in Dayton, Idaho and at Smithfield Elementary in Smithfield, Utah.
He moved to Lompoc, California in 1964 and received his Master’s Degree in Education at Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo. He taught elementary school and junior high in Lompoc and spent the rest of his career as a reading specialist at Hapgood Elementary.
He served in the Korean War with the Smithfield, Utah National Guard. He was with the National Guard and Reserves for 32 years, retiring as a Warrant Officer.
He was an active and devoted member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in many callings. He served many years on the High Council, served as bishop twice, and served a mission at Temple Square in Salt Lake City.
He is survived by his wife Karlene, children Christine (John) Watkins, Garry Facer, Terri (Bryce) Stromberg, Connie (Bryce) Kelly, Patty (Ken) Tuttle, and Rick (Cori) Facer; brother Wade (Norma) Facer, sister Rosalyn Hansen, sister-in-law Mabel Facer; as well as 28 grandchildren and 34 great grandchildren.
He loved farming, fishing and traveling.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, August 16, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at the Washington Fields Stake Center, 1295 South 3000 East, St. George, Utah. A viewing will be Friday, August 15, 2014 from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. at the same location. Graveside services will be at the Smithfield Cemetery Monday, August 18, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations are requested to Smile Train (smiletrain.org or 800-670-5294).
