A slew of Carbon County Summer Celebrations wraps up this week with the Helper Arts and Music Festival, which begins Thursday and features a variety of events through Sunday.
“It’s a great combination of cultural events for the whole family,” said Co-Director Stacey Armstrong. “You can enjoy great art, great entertainment, great music, great food and great vendors. It’s a wonderful way to wind up the summer.”
The Arts and Music Festival takes place in Downtown Helper on Main Street and is free to the public. Art lovers and art novices alike are invited to enjoy fine arts and crafts, art galleries, children’s activities, live theatre, ballroom dance, a car show, live music, food vendors and beer and wine gardens.
The Youth Art Exhibition kicks off the event on Thursday, with the awards ceremony at 5 p.m. BYU Ballroom Dancers will perform for the crowd after the ceremony.
The Festival events heat up Friday with a Playwright Competition.В The Helper Art Salon, featuring regional art, will also begin Friday at 3 p.m. and last through the end of the Festival, as will three days of live musical performances including concerts from The Pretty Darns, B.D. Howes, David Hahn Trio and Halden Wofford & The Hi-Beams.

Saturday begins with a 5K run and the “Sculpture Slap” competition. The Plein Air painting competition commences at 10 a.m., along with the Car Show.В Younger attendees can make birdhouses and yard art at the Children’s Art Yard from 10 to 5 p.m. on South Main Street next to the bowling alley.

The Festival wraps on Sunday with acts from musical performers including the American Irish Trio and the Red Desert Ramblers.

Alfred Hitchcock’s “39 Steps”, which has been presented at the Rio Theatre since August 11, will continue each evening through the Festival.
