Utah State Legislature Rep. Patrick Painter responded to a letter from Wellington City by attending the City Council meeting Wednesday.
Painter serves as Chairman of the House Revenue and Taxation Committee and was summoned because Councilmen were worried about Wellington’s $1.4 million debt.
Councilmen said new laws cut the City’s income by one-third, and the City is barely scraping by even after cutting the workforce by one-third.
Wellington City previously took its case to the CIB, but was only granted a five-year extension during which interest on the loan would continue to accrue.
Painter invited Mayor Ben Blackburn to meet with his committee in September to try to find a solution.
