Down seven points going into the fourth quarter, the Carbon Dinos clamped down on defense and exploded offensively to storm past Spanish Fork 67-58 on Friday in Price.
Carbon outscored Spanish Fork 26-10 in the fourth quarter. Clay Finkbiner led the Dinos with 13 points. Derek Young and Dakota Cisneros added 11 points each.
Young and Cisneros also recorded double-doubles as they had 14 rebounds and 11 assists, respectively.
“Any time you can get a win, that’s big for us,” Carbon head coach Jeff Cisneros said. “Especially a region win. Our guys played really well as a team, and coming out with the win is wonderful.”
Cisneros credited his team’s effort and resolve for the huge fourth-quarter swing.
“I think we just got after it a little bit harder on the defensive end, and we made some free throws, which we’ve struggled with,” Cisneros said. “Their best player picking up his fourth foul was pretty big for us too because it took him away from driving to the basket. When you combine all of those things, good things happen.”
Clay Banks led all scorer with 22 points. Hayden Nielsen added 21 for Spanish Fork. No other Spanish Fork player recorded more than four points.
Carbon improved to 8-4 overall and 1-1 in region play. The Dinos next visit Juab on Wednesday.
