The Huntington City Council met Wednesday night to discuss several items on their agenda.

Commissioner Ethan Migliori announced that the Department of Workforce Services and the state of Utah have been working together to provide money and training for citizens who will lose their jobs in the Deer Creek mine closure. They would like to provide help for workers who are transitioning to different industries and need schooling or additional training. Those interested in more information should contact Migliori.

The next item discussed was the application for the Community Development Block Grant (CDBG). The grant is for potential projects that serve Huntington City community development. It is a requirement that the project help low income families. Council member Julie Jones opened the floor for discussion and ideas from anyone in attendance. There were no ideas suggested so the council discussed putting a bathroom, storage room and utility room at the Huntington City Park.

Mayor Hilary Gordon explained that she has received many calls concerning the amount of trucks that will be driving through Huntington City from both ends of the county in result of the mine closure. Gordon has a meeting scheduled with Deb Dull from Rocky Mountain Power to discuss the issue. More information will follow.

In the council reports, the youth city council was thanked for helping with the town Christmas party. Gloria Wilson said the Turkey Trot was a huge success and the mayor thanked the council for a year of hard work.
